While some of us have spent the week in space — literally and figuratively, and no shade — let me bring us back down to Earth: the streets, somewhere between the tariffs and our feet.
Meet Flor de María — a former sports journalist who left the newsroom to design in-your-face, sophisticated shoes that make women feel indomitable.
When I wear her royal blue Emily boots, I feel like a baddie. Most importantly, they're deceivingly comfortable. And to me, that’s the essence of luxury.
I like that a woman made these shoes—someone who understands the balance between sick design and wearability. (I mean, the fact that she makes different calf sizes, says A LOT. #sheknows)
Her background shaped everything: "My journey has given me a deep understanding of what women need: shoes that are not just stylish and sexy but also comfortable and empowering. My designs reflect that balance, whether it's a sky-high stiletto or a chic flat, I want every woman to feel confident, powerful, and effortlessly glamorous."
Word, sis.
Who better to deliver shoe inspiration than the founder herself? Before we get to her exclusive spring edit, I had to pick her brain for my latest ‘Styled & Crafted’—about the style rule she made me break, this season’s essentials, and a few other items.
If you had to name just one must-have shoe for this season, what would it be and why?
Without a doubt, the elevated thong sandal! Traditionally seen as a casual staple, this season’s take on the style is anything but basic. Our version is refined and luxurious, crafted from premium materials that seamlessly transition from day to night. It’s the perfect mix of effortless and elegant,an absolute essential for staying on-trend.
What elements make for the perfect transitional footwear right now?
Versatility, comfort, and an elevated aesthetic. You want a shoe that can be dressed up or down, offering both style and practicality. A sleek, well designed sandal can easily carry you from a casual outing to an evening event.
Your 4-inch heels broke my vow to abandon stilettos after a certain age. How do you make them so wearable?
That means the world to me! Before launching my brand, I owned over 500 pairs of shoes always searching for that perfect balance of luxury, style, and comfort. Since I could never find the ideal pair, I decided to create it myself.
The secret? Precision in construction. Every shoe is built on our custom made lasts, ensuring weight is evenly distributed while providing superior support. We incorporate high-quality cushioning and strategic alignment to enhance comfort without compromising on style.
My goal is to design heels that empower women, whether you're commanding a boardroom or dancing the night away, you should feel confident and comfortable, no ibuprofen required! Ha, ha!
What’s one unexpected way to style a bold, colorful heel for everyday wear?
Let the shoes take center stage. Pair them with a crisp white tee and jeans or a sleek black dress keeping the outfit simple allows the vibrant heels to be the statement piece. Confidence is key; when you own the look, your shoes become an effortless extension of your style.
If your shoes could give a pep talk before you walked out the door, what would they say?
I LOVE this question! My shoes would say:
“Step into your Queen energy! You are fierce, unstoppable, and ready to take on the world. Walk with confidence—knowing that success, love, and amazing things are waiting for you. You’re a total boss, and with every step, you’re conquering the world one Flor de Maria shoe at a time!”

Prada has begun to resurface and share their archives and I’m strapped IN
Tory Burch's team knows what's up. The ballet flat has been lingering for a while, so why shouldn't the ballet flat OGs cash in on the fashion wheel of time? Last week I shared my workwear style evolution, and the Tory Burch flat goes down in history as the quintessential early aughts working woman's shoe. My girl LaSharah at The New York Times had like every pair. It was a THING.
These shoes said everything: I work in Midtown Manhattan, I eat lunch at Hale & Hearty, I afternoon snack at Jamba Juice, and I happy hour in Hell's Kitchen. And trust me, my cardigan sweater game is not to be f-ed with.
