Price Upon Request: A Broken Toe, but Boot-Obessesed
Fall Style Update: Shopping for motorcycle boots with a stubbed toe, a trench coat win, and Charli XCX’s newest campaign
Hi friends,
Quick life update: six weeks ago, I fractured my big toe after tripping on a poorly placed plank outside a construction site in my neighborhood. Some NYC ish.
Once I got over the pain, my main frustration has been missing out on fall boots. Nothing’s more frustrating than mismatched shoes, especially in a pedestrian city. And, I’m sorry, there’s no amount of funky socks that will make my orthopedic boot stylish, but health first!
With my toe healing, I’ve started browsing for the perfect pair of moto boots to rock with all my femme dresses and leather shorts (more on that soon).
Now, at a solid 5’2” (okay, 5’1 ¾, but who’s checking receipts?), proportions are key, so I’m debating between ankle, calf, and knee-highs.
My criteria:
Will they work with my current wardrobe?
Are they heavy? (I’m not here for ankle weights disguised as shoes!)
Is the hardware subtle or OTT?
Round or square toe? The debate is real.
Here’s what’s in my cart this week—each boot option has its own vibe, including ideas for those who aren’t vertically challenged:
Dreamy
Christian Dior: Soft leather with just enough detail—think Edward Scissorhands but make it luxe.
Paris Texas: Statement yet sleek; a savvy choice if you want to add edge without bulk.
Alexander Wang: For those who love height (and a little bit of control), these thigh-highs go all in.
Barbara Bui: The hardware balance makes it easy to wear with a shiny slip dress, a demure lace dress or a tuxedo blazer dress. Plus, I find the bold sole, usually found in more masculine footwear, refreshing.
Treat yo self:
All Saints: The Chelsea boot and the motorcycle boot had a baby and she likes to go out and play in a long dress or jeans for everyday cool. This is my go-to brand for effortless tough-girl Sons of Anarchy energy.
Rag & Bone: Sturdy, with adjustable buckle details for a bit of moto classicism.
Ganni: Mid-shaft and versatile for year-round styling. I tried these on recently and they are pretty lightweight and great for travel. Fun to pair with an oversized shirt dress with or without cut-off shorts.
High style without the high price:
Michael Kors: Streamlined but chic, ideal for casual or elevated looks fitting for holiday party dresses.
J.Crew: A low-key staple with a higher heels and the versatility factor dialed up. These make me think of a chunky knit cardigan and Mackintosh apples.
Marigold Shadows: This California-based brand juxtaposes tough and soft. This charming cowhide bootie exists in other colors but why would you?
Now for some irl inspo:

Trench Coat Chronicles: Target Trawling, Vintage Hunts & What I Finally Got
If you’ve been following along, you know I recently embarked on the hunt for the perfect trench — something timeless and practical for cool days.
I scouted a range of spots from vintage shops on the Lower East Side to “Tar-Jay.”
Target’s trench was a close contender—a solid pick, though I needed something a bit heavier for those chillier days. I do find myself missing those summer days on my RV road trip, trying on lightweight trench coats as I explored new stops. #neverforget

I finally landed on a secondhand burgundy faux leather stunner from Rosetta Getty. I’ve been captivated with the deep bordeauxs and rich plums showcased on the Fall 2024 runways—from Victoria Beckham to Gucci. And now, seeing them carry through into the Spring 2025 collections, it’s clear they’ve taken up permanent residence in my mind.
With its glossy finish and optional flap detailing, this coat is a hero piece that works just as well with jeans and Docs and it gives me that "stepping out" feeling.
Inspired by the women around me, who effortlessly throw on their trench coats while conquering the day—I'm ready to join them.
… And Sir Kendrick.
What I’m loving rn
